At Bestwood Agency, we know recovery is not a one-size-fits-all journey. Some people need more support than outpatient care can provide, but don’t require full hospitalization. That’s where Intensive Residential Treatment Services (IRTS) come in.

Treatment Schedule
What is IRTS?

IRTS is a short-term, live-in mental health program that provides 24/7 support in a safe, home-like setting. The program is designed to help adults experiencing serious mental health challenges stabilize, build skills, and prepare to live more independently in the community.

  • 24-Hour Support: Caring staff available day and night.

  • Individual & Group Therapy: Focused on recovery, coping skills, and wellness.

  • Medication Support: Help with understanding and managing medications.

  • Life Skills Training: Daily living skills such as cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and transportation.

  • Health & Wellness: Support for physical health, self-care, and healthy routines.

  • Community Integration: Building social connections and linking with ongoing supports.

IRTS may be right for adults who:

  • Are living with a severe and persistent mental illness.
  • Difficulties with co-occurring mental health and substance use 
  • Need extra support after a hospital stay.
  • Are at risk of hospitalization without structured care.
  • Want to develop recovery skills in a supportive environment.

IRTS is time-limited — typically up to 90 days. Length of stay depends on individual needs and progress. The focus is always on preparing for a smooth transition back into the community with ongoing supports in place.

IRT services are typically covered by Minnesota Health Care Programs. Bestwood Agency LLC. is currently able to accept the following insurances: 

  • Minnesota Medical Assistance
  • BlueCross BlueShield PMAP
  • BlueCross BlueShield commercial policies
  • Medica/Optum PMAP
  • UCare PMAP
  • South Country PMAP
